Dr. Tangela Towns teaches a number of courses in the Sociology discipline. At Winston-Salem State University, Dr. Towns teaches courses in the areas of Medical Sociology, General Sociology, and Sociology of Mental Illness. Her research interests include health disparities, class, race, ethnicity, health behaviors, diabetes and obesity in minority communities, cultural competence, social inequalities, and minority health outcomes. She serves as co-advisor to the Sociology Club, where she works with students on a number of service projects, forums, social movements, and community activities.
